Sunday’s fixture saw us hosting Millmoor Juniors at Haworth park.
The squad were given similar instructions as previous weeks, which was to get the ball down and play in the way which was successful in the later half of last season.
Both teams started strong, particularly Lois making promising runs on and off the ball down the left hand side of pitch, creating pockets of space in the final third for both Tate and Ibbotson to run onto.
In the first half United as team weren’t at their strongest, however the back four of Worsley, Robinson, Corinne and Newlove helped keep the Millmoor attack at bay.
Snippets of class from Lois saw herself in a position to create a chance inside the Millmoor penalty area in which she slipped into the bottom right corner making it 1-0 to United as the whistle for half time blew.
During the break united were advised by manager Lewis to compose themselves and play football in the right areas. Along with a tactical change where Ibbotson made way for Thomas.
Millmoor came out after break with vengeance however with the half time talk fresh united came with a new perspective and managed to slow the Millmoor attack.
As the game went on United gained a good momentum which saw Ibbotson and Brown hit the back of the net, followed by a bullet header by Sharp which took the score to 4-0.
Millmoor managed to steel one back in the last 10 with a high press which forced a mistake from Cone leading to a cool finish from a Milmoor striker making the final score 4-1.
Player of the match went to Lois, she caused problems for the Millmoor defence all afternoon.
The team look forward onto Sundays game at home against South Shields where they look to start there run in the league with 3 points
