Match Report: Hull United Women's Development 1-0 AFC Preston Ladies

This Sunday Hull United women’s development faced Preston at home.

The ladies knew this would be a tough test against the reigning champions, but the ladies were up for it.

With strong winds from the start, the girls chose to play with the wind and it paid off almost immediately. After a good save from Whitfield early on, a lofted ball from Ayre through to Mansell saw her find the back of the net after just 5 minutes.

The ladies grew into the game with Neale -Wright and Bailey working tirelessly down the wings.

The back four of Watson, O’Rourke, Warner-Bull and Bentley kept the Preston attacks to a minimum and Workman in the middle ran her socks off to dominate play.

Preston grew into the game as the half went on but the home side took the 1-0 lead into half time.

HT 1-0

The second half saw the visitors dominate possession from the whistle. When the home side managed to break the attacks were brilliant and almost saw goals from Bailey, Okpeta, Neale-Wright and Bailey.

Despite the number of attacks from Preston, they could not find the back of the net. Whitfield made a huge save to keep the girls in it, and she dominated her box excellently.

All substitutions came on and worked relentlessly to push for the 3 points, defending brilliantly in difficult conditions.

A last minute free kick for the visitors sailed over the bar to confirm the 1-0 win for United.

FT 1-0

A huge win for the ladies sees them in 4th position in the league, 3 points behind Preston with 2 games in hand.

POTM went to Whitfield for a brilliant display between the sticks and for keeping a clean sheet against really tough opponents.
