Hull United v Bradford City.
The FA Cup was back for Hull United ladies, a home game to Bradford City who had previously beaten Wallsend B.C 4-2 the previous week. Hull United suffered a 6-1 loss in their last game to Wakefield AFC.
The game kicked off after skipper Lauren Holmes won the toss, and it was fairly end-to-end football, with some great blocks and tackles coming from the two centre-halves, sharp and Corinne. However it was Bradford who struck first and picked up a misplaced pass, they fired it away to make the score 0-1.
This didn’t drop United’s heads. If anything it gave them fuel to go on and work even harder than before. The fullbacks, Newlove and Marrow picked up the wingers well and marked them out of the game.
The midfield three dominated play even with the goal deficit and clear-cut chances were created but unfortunately not put away. Holmes, Robinson and Tankard battled hard throughout the first half. But just before halftime a substitution had to be made, Robinson off and Brown on.
The halftime whistle blew and the score was 0-1 to Bradford.
The second half began and another substitute was made. Marrow stepped up well for the side and off for Ward, who played a deeper role at right back.
It wasn’t long before United levelled the score when a free kick was given and Millie Sharp stepped up and blasted it into to goal to make it 1-1
Soon after that Ibbotson doubled the lead with a well-timed finish to make the score 2-1, making it a promising result for United.
Some great running from Damms provided great opportunities for the home team as she battled endlessly through the whole game, however, it was a darting run into the box from Tate who had the perfect goal-scoring opportunity was pulled back and the referee pointed to the spot. Penalty for United. However, a reaction from one of the Coaching team for United was pulled up and given a red card for the outburst. However, that did not falter the composure of Tate who slotted it away 3-1 the score.
Another substitution was made at this point, captain Holmes off for Lisle who immediately affected the team. However, Bradford did not stop attacking and some chances were created but Keeper Cone picked up balls and swept up the box brilliantly.
Towards the end of the game. United were given another free kick. It had to be Sharp to step up after the previous brilliant goal. Another perfect strike from even further output the game at 4-1
The final whistle blew finishing the game and United in high spirits.
Player of the match went to Millie Sharp who had an all-round perfect performance
