Match Report: Spennymoor Town Ladies 3-2 Hull United women's First Team

September 14, 2023

Spennymoor Town Ladies V Hull United women's First Team

Away days we’re back for the season, when United travelled over 2 hours to play Spennymoor ladies F.CSmall changes to the line-up from last week, Tate moving to centre forward and Tankard coming into the starting line-up.

The first 15 were shaky from United as Spennymoor’s aerial threat kept opening up chances for the side. But with a great bit of build up play, Anya Ibbotson slotted the ball into the bottom right corner making the score line 1-0 to United.

This goal seemed to bring some confidence into the squad, when some better football was being played and United looked a real attacking threat. Tate, Ibbotson and Ward seemed to find themselves getting into the box in more occasions but the Spennymoor defence dealt with them accordingly.

During the middle of the second half United gained advantage from a corner and Tate swung the ball and made it through every player and into the back of the net. 2-0

Some changes were made in the first half, mainly the midfield to keep up with the heat and to keep our performance at a winning level. Chloe Robinson came on for Lisle and made an immediate impact on the game.

At this point the back four gained a lot more confidence and kept sweeping up any wayward balls or winning every 1v1 battle. Eleanor and Jade as the full backs made some great challenges and played some great football to keep us on the front foot.

Just before half-time though, Spennymoor’s attack played a cross into the box and headed it into the back of the net to make the score 2-1 at half time

The second half went underway and United had the intention of getting the ball down and playing a nice passing style of football. Millie sharp , who had a brilliant first half, had to come off due to injury. This then meant a new partnership of O’Rourke and Corinne as the centre backs.

United started the second half with the same momentum of the first half and kept the score line at 2-1 for the majority of the second half. This was due to Holmes, Chloe Robinson, Tankard, Lisle, or any of the midfielders who were on at the time.

A quick sub was made, Ellis into right wing the keep united with an attacking presence

Unfortunately in the dying minutes united became undone from a penalty decision that was then put into the top corner with no chance of saving, even if Keeper Sharla Cone wasn’t injured.

Because of Sharla’s injury, Eleanor then had to be pulled into goalkeeper duties. And a credit to put the gloves on and play in the position.

But momentum kept Spennymoor fighting in the final minutes which made the United side drop too deep. A corner was then conceded and a goal then came from the corner. Game finished a 3-2 loss for United

POTM Went to Sharla Cone who kept us in the game with some brilliant saves and winning countless balls in the box.

Next weeks game we host Sunderland West end F.C at Haworth park

Player Of The Match Sharla Cone
