Womens Development Team

Mid-season review

We caught up with Mel Marsden to find out how the Women’s Development team have been doing so far this season.

Manager Mel Marsden Added “From taking on the job in the summer, having no staff or players we have had to build this squad from scratch and 6 months on I am really pleased with the progress we have made! I appointed Chloe Robinson as my assistant and with 6 months under our belts we are starting to see the team we have been building. With 14 new signing over the season so far and 5 of these being under 18 it is brilliant as our aim as a club is to develop these players to make the step up to the first team.

My role as the Development Team manager is to progress as many players as possible through our system up to the first team and so far, this season 3 players have been promoted so that’s a massive plus for me. My aim over the rest of the season is to improve our league position and add more youth to the squad and support them in the jump from the girls league into women’s football. Working with 16-year-olds and helping progress them through the pyramid is something I am very passionate about. We currently have 4 15-year-olds who are training with us, this is great for their development and enables me to integrate them into the match day squad when they’re ready and old enough.”

Over the summer we will be holding open training sessions for girls aged 15-19 years old, more details will be confirmed on our website soon.
