South Shields Ladies V Womens First Team

Untied women to a trip to South Shields. Manager Lewis Poucher told the ladies how he wanted them to start the game. They started the game very strong and kept to their instructions which was to keep their shape and no shot from 18yards out.

As the game was growing the battle began in the midfield, United held their own. It was great play in the midfield from Millie sharp Lauren Holmes stopping them through balls so south shield couldn’t get a decent shot of at goal. The ball was worked down the left hand side from United, which Lauren Tate was about 20yards out from goal she managed to lob south shield keeper which put United 1-0 up. They were roughly about 20 min left before half time and United was playing some great football. South shield player played the ball over the top, which Megan came running out of her goal, with a 50/50 jump with their striker, clearly won the football but the referee gave south shield a penalty. Their player stepped up and put the ball over the crossbar. United went in 1-0 up at half time.

United stepped back on the field for the next 45 minutes. South shield had the kick off which was worked very quickly toward united box, they managed to get an equaliser as United switched off. They were lots of battles within the game mainly in the middle of the park. South shield had the ball in United penalty area, across came Becky walker with a well timed tackled, which south shield was claiming a penalty, the ref waved it away. United gave a free kick away on the right hand side. South shield took the free kick which went in the back of the net. United continued to play brilliant football, was still creating chances but just couldn’t put them away. Millie Sharp had a free kick with about 5 minutes to go, we all thought it was going to lob the south shield keeper again, but she managed to get her hands on it. The game finished 2-1 to south shield.
