Gilberdyke V Mens Development Team

Gilberdyke 1 Hull United Development 1

A battling performance saw both teams split the points as Hull United Development team start to establish a base to work on.

Good pressure from the kick off saw Hull United go close from a corner – only the frame of the goal denied a powerful header at the back post.

Hull continued to press high and work the opposition about with some quick play. Early into the 1st half a ball slide through from midfield split Gilberdyke’s defence. Captain, Frankie darted on to the pass and, holding off the defender, slotted past the on-rushing keeper (finally Frankie had stopped trying to take the keeper on). 1-0 to United.

Gilberdyke resorted to trying to switch the player to break Hull down; but, their passing was sloppy and Hull’s defence stayed strong.

However, late in the first half, an overload in the middle of the park brought the home team level. 1-1 going into halftime.

For the second half, Gilberdyke resorted to hitting it long for large parts and forcing Hull United’s defence running back to their own goal. Hull tired and struggled to keep the ball – they were pinned in!

Good defending: last ditch tackles, sliding Silvio (legend has it he’s still sliding), brave GK and determination from all those on the pitch kept Hull in the game.

Hull did fire back but this was too infrequent. A few poor free-kicks (the hero of last week barely troubling the corner flag let alone the keeper) were their best efforts, truth be told.

The game came to an end with Hull digging in and seeing out the game to secure another point in their travels.

MotM went to RB Cole. Brave, dogged and aggressive – the qualities of the full team.
