Bridlington Rovers Ladies V Women's Development

This Sunday the ladies travelled to the coast to face Bridlington in the league cup.

After a disappointing result last week the ladies were looking to turn things around and get the win.

Marsden made a couple of changes to the starting line up, seeing Witty and Whitfield start at right wing and left back respectfully.

The visitors started strong, with Ward on the left linking up well with the strikers Smirk and Hughes. Bridlington continued to press throughout the first half, forcing United to up their game.

20 minutes in saw captain Pinder get on the scoresheet once again after getting on the end of an Ayre freekick and knocking the ball over the keeper and into the back of the net. Soon after, Workman, Kerrison and Holmes came on and made an instant impact. The half finished 0-1 to United.

The second half started and United extended their lead early with a great finish from Smirk to make it 0-2. United continued to apply pressure and the lead was extended again after a handball from a Bridlington defender gave the visitors a penalty, which Ayre converted from the spot. 0-3.

Bridlington continued to work hard, creating some decent attacks but the defence along with keeper Cooke managed to keep the clean sheet.

Late into the second half Workman and Pinder really started to enjoy themselves in the middle, creating some brilliant chances. With 20 minutes left, Smirk got her second with another great finish. Ayre soon followed with an easy tap in from a pinpoint Ward corner and Workman made the final score 0-6 to United with a great goal to finish the game off.

After a disappointing result last week, the ladies put in a high quality performance against a physical and ever improving Bridlington side.
